The Center of Excellence for Geopolitics and International Studies (CEGIS), had the privilege of hosting Captain (Indian Navy) Sarish Mathur (Retd.). He shared valuable insights drawn from his extensive operational experience in maritime aviation and long-range surveillance. His talk provided a first-hand account of naval aviation's evolution, the strategic role of maritime patrol aircraft, and the critical importance of indigenization in India's defence capabilities. Capt. Mathur spoke about the operational capabilities of India's long-range patrol aircraft, from the Russian IL-38 and TU-142M to the Dornier 228 and the advanced Boeing P-8I. He highlighted their pivotal roles in maritime surveillance, anti-submarine warfare, and force projection. The discussion also touched on hashtag #naval aviation weapon systems, including sonobuoys, depth charges, and torpedoes, underscoring their role in safeguarding India's maritime frontiers.
